Acacia offers a structured 9-month training program from September to May for master’s- and doctoral-level practicum students interested in working with College Students and other Emerging Adults.

Deadlines:

  • Master’s level applications are accepted from January 14 through February 6, 2022.
  • At this time we are not accepting applications for Doctoral level students.
  • Application review and invitations for interviews begin February 7, 2022.
  • Interviews for a subset of applicants will be scheduled for the week of February 14, 2022.

Practicum training focuses on a number of components:

  • In-depth training in diagnostic assessment and individual outpatient therapy, with group and couples therapy based on referrals.
  • Opportunity to learn from clinicians in practice, as well as feedback provided by peers and supervisors through the use of group supervision and video recorded sessions
  • Focus on multiple aspects of diversity, including, but not limited to, multiculturalism and the development of cultural humility
  • Exposure to a variety of theoretical orientations, interventions, and case conceptualizations
  • Students are provided supervision through developmental and competency-based approaches, with a minimum of one hour of individual and group supervision weekly. Practicum students also participate in all-staff consultation and staff meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Throughout the training year, practicum students participate in didactics, case presentations, and are asked to present to Acacia staff on an area of particular interest or expertise. Examples of past presentations have included Mindfulness, Grief and Loss, Toxic Masculinity, Third Culture Kids, and Health at Every Size. participate in all-staff consultation and staff meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Acacia is made up of a diverse variety of mental health clinicians with specialized training in several areas of expertise and from different backgrounds. Our therapists are actively involved in the training program with practicum students.
