Acacia Isla Vista’s Mental Health Advocate (MHA) Interns organized a Valentine’s Day carnation fundraiser that took place on Pardall in Isla Vista just outside of UC Santa Barbara’s campus. Proceeds went to ROOTS, which enables low income students the ability to afford therapy. The fundraising project was spearheaded by MHA interns Maggie Yao and Molly Delzio.
Prior to the event 127 carnations pre-sold through our Acacia IV Facebook page; Acacia staff and MHA interns were overwhelmed by the community’s willingness to help the ROOTS cause. Additionally, Delzio was humbled by the responses she got while selling carnations. According to Delizo, many of the customers were incredibly honored to be contributing to the ROOTS cause and were thrilled ROOTS was being implemented in their community. Although it was an overcast and drizzly day, the carnations completely sold out in just one hour! This made it the most successful IV ROOTS fundraiser to date.
